Cal Rush-Williams is a Cumbria-based singer-songwriter, popular in the local Penrith/Carlisle area. Wielding an acoustic guitar and harmonicas, and on occasion a ukulele or mandolin, his live music often ponders on dark contemporary folk. With a powerfully gravelly yet soft voice, reminiscent to that of Tom Waits, and with songs both heart-breaking and heart-warming in nature, Cal’s music is earthy and gritty and self-admittedly largely fuelled by red wine. Inspirations can be seen in the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Nick Cave, whilst still creating a sound unique to him and his style. After releasing his debut single earlier this year, the sea-shanty style love song, Kraken Tides, Cal Rush-Williams is in the process of releasing his highly anticipated 1st EP.
