The Unsung started off as a side effect; multi-instrumentalist/producer Ben and singer/songwriter Julia got chatting about their individual interest in music whilst at a mutual friend’s wedding at the end of 2013; Fast-forward a few months and Julia had laid down some vocal ideas on tracks recorded by Ben and his friend and collaborator Craig then after a couple more meet ups/jam sessions Ben suggested working on some songs as a live band; Julia subsequently received the offer of a gig in May 2014 so The Unsung found themselves with incentive to find a bassist, refine songs they’d been working on and write a couple more – the natural choice was John who Craig and Ben knew from covers bands they’d played in. Since then The Unsung have focused their energies developing their sound through writing songs in between practising and playing gigs in and around Carlisle and Cumbria and further afield and have just released their first album ‘thousand yard stare’ which is available on CD and soon to be available for streaming and downloading.
Press: “The Unsung were a very different vibe to the other bands that showcased this evening. Lead singer Julia’s powerful voice delivered an incredible sound during the tracks and the quality of music produced live blew away the crowd. With great riffs and a fantastic stage presence that got the crowd dancing, The Unsung certainly delivered a fantastic intense set.”
